Among the most vital of our responsibilities as a community of faith, is sharing in worship with one another. Our Sunday celebration, The Mass, is best celebrated when we all participate. All hymns are located in the misalette.

Preparation of the Gifts 37 Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All (p149)
Communion 35 Gift of Finest Wheat (p148)
Meditation 48 Amazing Grace (p152)
Recessional 40 Crown Him with Many Crowns (150)

Second Collection

There will be a special collection for flood victims. Devastating floods have affected the upper Midwestern area of our country. The vivid images on the television and in the newspaper reports convey the desperate need of thousands of men, women and children who have lost their homes, businesses, crops, and personal possessions. The sufferings of these victims cry out to us as members of one human family and one Body of Christ. His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua has requested each parish to have a collection in response to the needs arising from this major disaster. A second collection will be taken up next weekend, June 7th/8th, for this deserving cause. Please be generous, as we join with other United States Dioceses in assisting our sisters and brothers in the struggle to rebuild their lives. Thank you and God bless you.

Month's Mind Mass

for our Pastor

Tuesday, June 17th, will mark one month since the death of our Pastor, Father Cy. On that night, at 7 o'clock, in our Parish Church a Month's Mind Mass will be offered for him, to which all are invited to come and participate. Fellowship over light refreshments will follow in the School Hall.

Although, June 17th brings to a conclusion the official period of mourning, there remains much about Father Cy which will be remembered and cherished always. May he rest in peace!

Important Meeting

There will be a "combined" meeting of the Pastoral Council and Financial Committee of St. Joseph's Church this Sunday, June 1st, following the 10:30am Mass, in the Rectory Conference Room. We urge all members to attend this very important meeting.

A Letter to the Parish

Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph's,

This past week has been a time of great sorrow in the lives of our family and also in your parish family. The passing of our brother, our uncle, and your pastor, has left us with an extremely heavy heart. We cannot begin to express the many thanks to all of you for the many kindness, which you have extended unto us.

The constant outpouring of love, compassion, and sympathy, which we received from the parish was truly overwhelming. Your readiness to help us in all matters was outstanding.

You have left a lasting impression on our hearts with the many touching memories which you shared with us concerning Father Cyril. Father was a man of great modesty and we could have never dreamed how much he was responsible for and how very much you all loved him.

May God bless each one of you and hold you dear to His heart for all the acts of charity and compassion you showered upon us during this past week. We can only hope and pray that God will heal the pain in our hearts as time goes on.

Prayerfully yours in Christ,
The Ponisciak Family

Catholic Charities

This weekend will be your last chance to contribute to the 1997 Catholic Charities Appeal. We still have not heard from a great many of our parishioners. Please help us meet our goal. Thank you.

Clothing Drive

The Archdiocese St. Vincent DePaul Society will be at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 603 West Second Avenue, Parkesburg, on Saturday & Sunday, June 7th & 8th, 9:00am to 2:00pm, to collect donations of usable clothing for the poor and needy.

They could also use blankets, linens, pots, pans, dishes and eating utensils. A truck/trailer will act as the receiving point for your various donations. Thank you for helping SVDS help others!

A Family Perspective

Today's Gospel talks about the last supper of Jesus. Notice that this meal, like all the other meals in Jesus' life, started with a blessing. When we eat as a family, it is important to start with a prayer. Praying reminds us that we sit at a table to do more than eat. We gather to share our lives and to strengthen the bond that calls us to live our lives for one another.
