Announcements

Envelopes

Church envelopes for next year can be picked up at the back of the church. They are arranged alphabetically. If you cannot locate your envelopes, please call the Rectory (384-0360). It is not intentional but mistakes do happen.

Also, adult children who are no longer in school and are working should request envelopes and become active and supportive in their church.

Envelopes are also being provided for children (ages 6 thru 18). The amount of their donation is not significant but will cultivate a sense of "giving".

Wanted

Will the family who now has the Pilgrimage Statue in their possession, please contact Mary Benkovich. There are many families who wish to enjoy this special statue in their homes also. Thank you!

Announced Mass Intentions

We wish to assure those who arranged earlier for announced Masses that their intentions will be honored. These intentions are being assigned to current weekend Masses, and will likewise be assigned to weekday Masses once they resume in the near future. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this regard.

CCD News

The religious education of our children is one of our most important responsibilities as Catholic parents. Our CCD program provides religious education opportunities for all school age and preschool age children in the parish. Preschool children must be at least four years old as of September 1st, 1997, and for the older students, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering a new youth program this year for students in grade six and above. This program will enable our young people to put to good use the gifts of Holy Spirit that they received in Confirmation.

Registration for the 1997/1998 CCD year and for the youth program will be held the next two weekends: August 2nd/3rd and August 9th/10th. You may register your children after any of the Masses. Registration will be held in the school hall. Classes will begin on Sunday, September 21st..

Fall Semester

The Religious Studies Division, St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook will conduct a Fall Semester of undergraduate and graduate courses in Sacred Scripture and Theology, Monday and Tuesday evenings, September 8th thru December 16th. These course offerings are open to laity, religious and priests; for more information, please call (610)667-3394 extension 287.

Holy Day of Obligation

Friday, August 15th brings us the beautiful summer Feast of Mary, The Assumption into Heaven. Some refer to it as "Mary's Easter" or her "Falling Asleep in the arms of the Lord". It is a Holy Day of Obligation. To fulfill your obligation, the Vigil Mass will be offered in St. Joseph's Church on Thursday, August 14th at 7:00pm. On the Holy Day itself, August 15th, Masses will be offered in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church at 9:00am and 7:00pm. We hope that this arrangement will be beneficial and convenient for our faithful parishioners.

A Family Perspective

In today's Gospel Jesus warns us: "Do not work for what perishes, but for what endures..." Don't waste your energy on "material things"---for all this perishes. Give your life to what endures..." Don't waste your energy on "material things"--for all this perishes. Give your life to what endures; such as the history that you are creating as a family, the love and mutual respect that bonds you together, the memories that you share, the forgiveness that is generously and frequently given. These are the treasures that are worth working and dying for.

Women's Club News

I hope everyone is having a good summer. But — it will soon be time to start working and planning our coming year. Now would be a good time to start thinking - and working on — Needlework items, Christmas Bazaar items, etc. It’s not too early to start and it’s not so hectic right now.

We will be calling a PLANNING MEETING the latter part of August. Please get your ideas and suggestions together. Time and date will be announced. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

"Jesus saw a vast crowd. He pitied them for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them at great length."
