Announcements

We have recently received a letter from the Society for the Propagation of the Faith thanking St. Joseph's Church for participating in the Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan. It stated that St. Joseph's parishioners' generous donation of $650.00 clearly indicates our willingness to share with the mission Church. We are to be assured that our generous gift will be used carefully to feed both those who hunger for just a bowl of rice as well as those who hunger for the Word of Life!

Last weekend, Father Francis Schlett, Pastor of St. Cecilia Church, publicly disclosed to parishioners that he was engaged in a seven week program of radiation treatments for Cancer. He has placed his cause for healing under the patronage of our Lady of Hope. We are requested to join with the faithful of St. Cecilia Parish in their prayers for their pastor. Please speak his name frequently to God and commend him to the care of Mary.

Our recent Cluster Planning Discussions indicated that our local Catholic Churches are not sufficiently involved in community affairs. We wish to assist civic and social organizatons in their efforts to improve our society, especially morally. If you are a member of a civic or social group, you can help us in this undertaking. Please fill out a form on the vestibule table concerning civic organizations. Thank you for your cooperation!

Do you know of someone in your family or among your neighbors who has expressed an interest in the Catholic Faith? Or is it a baptized Catholic adult who received little or no religious education to advance to Communion and/or Confirmation? Our RCIA Program addresses these situations in a welcoming, friendly, informative manner. For full details and registration, call Father John at 384-1172. It is hoped that the RCIA presentations could be underway by mid October.

A Family Perspective

Notice the way Jesus healed the deaf man in today's Gospel! Jesus (1) "took him aside away from the crowd," (2) "touched him", (3) "sighed" and (4) spoke clearly to him. In our familes there are times when we are deaf to one another. If you need to say something to someone, follow the example of Jesus; (1) take the person aside, (2) physically touch them, (3) listen carefully to them, and then talk to them without attacking. Miracles take time and patience.
