Memorial DonationsThe following memorial donations have been received and are gratefully acknowledged:
CongratulationsCongratulations are extended to Matt Whiteman, son of Patricia & Richard Whiteman, who has received a four year scholarship to the University of Arts in Philadelphia. Our parish recently received notification of the performance of our high school students on the Third Quarter Report. We are particularly proud of those who demonstrated academic excellence. Students who achieved first honors include: Kathryn Catanese, Melissa Rhoades, and Elizabeth Catanese. Among those earning second honors were the following students from our parish: Shannon Hamara and Matthew Urbine. First Communion SundayThe joy of the Easter season is compounded for us by our Parish celebration of First Holy Communion next Sunday, May 3rd, at the 10:30am Mass. All are invited to participate in this memorable sacramental event, bringing to the Table of the Risen Lord our thirteen young first communicants. In AppreciationThis Sunday, April 26th, our CCD Program for Religious Education concludes for another year. We are certainly most grateful to the volunteer catechists and aides who staff this program and carry on the important task of educating the young in the beliefs and practices of our Catholic Faith, namely - Jackie Garress, Deanna Reczek, Kathy Catanese, Pam Krupansky, Lisa Hillman, Marge Bednar, Jackie Zelina, Cheryl Kissling, and Frank Lasak Jr. May God bless them many times over for their dedication, fidelity and generosity and another year of service to the families of the Parish. Thank you, also, to our parents for their support, enthusiasm and cooperation over this past CCD year. May one and all enjoy a safe, refreshing summer season! Continuing The Good WorksLast weekend's parish bulletin announced the recent death of Sister M. Edmund Cigas, SS C.M., a Coatesville native and "daughter" of our Parish who entered the Sisters of SS. Cyril and Methodius more than 70 years ago. In loving memory of Sister Edmund, a contribution has been given to her religious community by our Parish Family to promote the Sisters' apostolate and good works. On Saturday, May 16th, the Mass at 6:30pm will be offered for the happy repose of the soul of Sister Edmund. We respectfully hold her in our memory. May she rest in peace! Confirmation AnniversaryA mini-retreat marking the first anniversary of the sacrament of Confirmation will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 9:00am until 12:30pm. All the members of last year's Confirmation class are invited to this event. If you have not received your invitation or have any questions, please call Frank Lasak Jr.or Kathy Catanese. Thank you. 1998 Catholic Charities AppealWelcome to the celebration of the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia beginning Sunday, May 3rd and will run for three weeks, ending Sunday, May 24th. This year, the theme for the Appeal shares the theme of Renewal Year VII, "Holy Spirit, Giver of Hope, Help us Teach the Gospel of Christ." It is a relatively unknown fact that the Catholic Charities Appeal of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is one of the largest providers of "hope" in the Delaware Valley. Agencies and programs funded by the Appeal help those who may be struggling with difficulties in their lives: the loss of a loved one; homelessness; migration issues; sickness and disabilities. The Appeal also funds volunteer opportunities for youth, Marriage and Family Life Preparation classes, Foster Family Care and five Archdiocese Day Schools for Special Education. Today, the programs and services funded by the Appeal are growing to meet the demands of the new millennium. But the work is not finished, and the need continues to grow. Last year alone, the Appeal impacted over 250,000 people, including many parishioners right here in St. Joseph's Church. The Catholic Charities Appeal is our annual opportunity to join together as a parish and help the community at large. As a measure of thanksgiving for the blessings you have received, please support the Catholic Charities Appeal. Glory to the LambA hundred and fifty-three fish - the miraculous catch made in response to Jesus' creative word. Hearing God's word and keeping it is the love-filled witness of Peter, the other apostles and the whole church. Without this witness nothing of lasting value gets accomplished; with it, paradise is filled up in the name of the Trinity. "To the One sitting on the throne and to the Lamb be all praise, honor, glory and power forever and ever." Amen! Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! A Family PerspectiveThe risen Jesus appeared to his disciples and provided them with physical and spiritual nourishment for the work ahead. This is what our presence in our families and communities provides when we act on the Lord's behalf. WorkshopBrother Jack Driscoll (the former president of Iona College, NY) will conduct a workshop at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 80 South 17th Avenue, Coatesville on Thursday, May 7th, 7:30pm to 9:30pm. He will discuss a subject many Americans have forgotten in their overstressed lives: "The Gift and the Beauty of the Sabbath". Too often we ignore the physical and the spiritual rest God has given us in the Sabbath. All are welcome. Don't miss this inspiring presentation. Please bring your bible.
