Many Thanks to Many People

A good time was had by all who attended our Second Annual Parish Picnic last Sunday, June 14th. The Westwood Pavilion and adjacent fields provided a perfect setting for the approximately 150 parishioners who feasted on delicious food items and enjoyed the afternoon's outdoor activities. Praise God for giving us a window to the sunshine and pleasant weather that day! And many, many thanks to the "movers and shakers" who organized, prepared and worked the event to the delight and pleasure of young and old alike!

The Pope's Annual Appeal

The Special Collection next weekend, June 27th-28th, will benefit the good works of the Holy Father. It is the Annual Peter's Pence Appeal, which enables Pope John Paul II to respond with emergency assistance to victims of disaster, continue his pastoral care for the Church and spread the Gospel message throughout the world. Your contribution to this Appeal helps to bring hope to those who need it most. Thank you, in advance, for your generous response!

There will be no second collection but please place your envelopes for the Holy Father into the basket with your regular Sunday envelopes the weekend of June 27th-28th. Thank you for your generosity.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

This weekend, Confessions are being heard on Sunday, June 21st, from 9:45 until 10:15am. On the following weekend, Confessions will be heard on Saturday, June 27th, from 5:45 until 6:15pm. Also, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at anytime upon request.

Community Blood Drive

This Monday, June 22nd, from 2:00 to 7:30pm, a Community Blood Drive will be conducted by the American Red Cross in the Hall of the St. Stanislaus Kostka School Building. Be a real lifesaver; be a blood donor! Your one donation will be helping three to five patients. Walk in donors are welcome during the afternoon and early evening hours; please bring some type of identification with you. Summer always seems to bring a decline in the available blood supply, making your donation of blood all the more appreciated. Please consider being a blood donor on June 22nd.

A Family Perspective

In today's Gospel, Jesus asked Peter, "Who do you say I am?" Peter responded "the Messiah of God" and was eventually martyred for this belief. If Jesus asked your family the same question today, what would you say and how would your life demonstrate your belief?

Vacation Bible School Registration

Registration for Vacation Bible School will be held this weekend and next weekend after each Mass. In order to have enough materials for everyone, all children planning to attend bible school must be registered by June 30th. (Bible school will be held the last week in July.) We still need adults to teach classes, coordinate games and activities, help with arts and crafts, and provide snacks. If you can help in any way, please call Frank Lasak or Kathy Catanese. Thank you.

Hospitality

When the three angels passed by the tent, Abraham and Sarah gave them a gracious welcome. They invited God in to share their hospitality, but God outdid their generosity by giving them Isaac. Similarly, when Jesus passed through a village, Martha and Mary gave him a generous welcome in their home. They did their best for him and he in turn revealed the great mystery of faith, as he does to us today: Christ among us, our hope of glory. We offer bread and wine, and God gives us the body and blood of Christ. Alleluia!
