A Television Special of Interest to Catholics

Bernardin, a moving television portrait of the late Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, Archbishop of Chicago, will be broadcast this Tuesday, July 7th, on WHYY-TV, Channel 12, at 10:00pm. The hour-long program assesses the impact of the Cardinal's life and ministry by revisiting the key places he lived and worked, and by interviewing family members, long-time friends and close associates. Invite your family, friends and neighbors to join you in watching this documentary program. Help us build a very strong audience for this exceptional television experience.

Millennium Cross of Reconciliation visits locally

As part of our local preparation for the Celebration of Reconciliation Saturday, an Archdiocesan Millennium Event, to be held on March 20, 1999, Our Holy Father blessed the specially made Cross of Reconciliation for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Modeled on the type of cross carried by Pope John Paul II on Good Friday each year and resembling the cross carried in procession by the pilgrims in the Holy Land, the Cross of Reconciliation is made of olive wood from the Holy Land and contains a relic of the True Cross. It is currently being enthroned in a church in each of the Clusters in the Archdiocese for veneration and the prayerful reflection of the faithful. Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 80 South 17th Avenue, in our Coatesville Area Cluster, will host the Cross of Reconciliation on the weekend of July 25th/26th until Thursday, July 30th. This presents to all of us a special opportunity to reflect on the redeeming power of the Cross of Christ, and the reconciling power of His love poured out for us. On Tuesday of that week, July 28th, at 7:00pm, all are encouraged to join with other parishes in our Cluster for a Prayer Service at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, which will focus on the mystery of the Cross. There will also be the opportunity for Confessions. Do plan on attending.

Special Appeal Next Weekend

Next weekend, July 11th/12th, we participate in the Collection for the Campaign for Human Development. This appeal fights the root causes of poverty in the United States. For more than 27 years, the Campaign for Human Development has been helping people help themselves by funding thousands of projects that create jobs, strengthen communities and empower families. This nationwide program, sponsored by the Conference of Catholic Bishops, funds successful projects here in our own Archdiocese as well. Your contribution to the Campaign for Human Development offers a self-productive hope to the poor. Hope -- it's yours to give!!!

Sacrament of Reconciliation

This weekend, Confessions will be heard on Sunday, July 5th, from 9:45 to 10:15am, prior to the Morning Mass. Next weekend, Confessions will be heard on Saturday, July 11th, from 5:45 to 6:15pm, prior to the Evening Mass. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available anytime upon request.

A Family Perspective

The words of today's Gospel, "Ask the harvest master to send workers to his harvest," applies to every Christian and every family. We are all called to "be on our way," advancing the mission of the Church. How does your family's participation in parish programs and events proclaim that "the reign of God is at hand"?
