R.C.I.A. Classes Forming

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the approach offered by our Parish Family both to welcome new members from other religious denominations or no Church affiliation and to complete the Sacraments of Initiation for adult Catholics who have received only Baptism. In a friendly and informative manner, the beliefs and the practices of the Catholic Faith are presented over a series of weekly sessions, beginning in the Fall and continuing to the Spring. Quite simply, the R.C.I.A. Program is the Church's way of making new Catholics and full Catholics. For further information or to register, kindly contact Father John at 384-1172. We are looking to open our new series on October 14th.

Choir News

Rehearsals for the Adult and Youth Choirs will begin on Monday, September 21st. If you ever thought of joining one of these groups, now is the time. I’d love to see some new faces this year. The choirs sing during regular services and at special services during the holidays. There are no tryouts, all you need is a desire to sing. For a small investment in time, I think you’ll find it a very rewarding experience. This year is particularly exciting because we will be preparing for several special events to mark St. Joseph’s 75th Anniversary.

For the next few months, the organists and cantors at St. Joseph’s will also be providing the music for St. Stanislaus Kostka’s services. Because of these extra responsibilities, it was necessary to move the rehearsals for the Adult Choir to Monday night. On Mondays, the Youth Choir will rehearse from 6:45pm to 7:30pm in the choir loft, followed by the Adult Choir rehearsal which will run from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the organists or cantors, before or after Mass. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting some new ones on the 21st.

A Morning Out for Our Men, Young Men and High School Boys

We are glad to be hosting a Grand Communion Breakfast for the men, young men and high school boys of St. Joseph Parish. It will take place next Sunday, September 27th, in the Parish Hall, immediately following the 10:30am Mass. Rev. Mr. Frank Clark, Director, Archdiocesan Family Life Office, will be the featured speaker. Because of the gracious generosity of the Women's Club, there will be no cost to the participants. This is an invitation being offered to reach out to our men, young men, and high school boys, and to provide them with a spiritual and social occasion in one another's company. The favor of a reply is requested no later than Monday, September 21st, by calling Ann Cigas. Come, enjoy a full country breakfast and "the guy's morning out!"

CCD

The CCD Program begins this Sunday, September 20th. Classes are held on Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the school. If you have not registered, please stop by the school or call Frank Lasak. We currently have classes for students age 4 through the 5th grade. Students in the 2nd grade who do not attend Catholic school must be enrolled in the CCD program in order to receive their First Reconciliation and Communion.

CCD Kindergarten Teacher Needed

We are in need of an adult to help teach the Kindergarten class. You will be paired with another teacher. If you can help, please call Frank Lasak. Thank you.

CCD Kindergarten Aide Needed

We are in need of one or more people to serve as a teacher’s aide for our Kindergarten class. This person would work one-on-one with a child who has special needs. It would be best to have 2 or more people that they could rotate weeks. The aide should be an adult (or student at least 14 years old). If you can help, please stop by the CCD teacher’s meeting in the school hall after the 10:30 Mass or call Frank Lasak. Thank you. (We already have one volunteer but we could use 1 or 2 more - Thanks!)

Pastoral Council

There will NOT be a pastoral council meeting in September. Our next meeting will be October 19th. More details about this meeting will follow next month.

School Choice Update

The State Legislature may once again revisit the issue of school choice this Fall. Our locality is represented by Tim Hennessey. Take the time, please, to call Representative Hennessey at (610)380-8600 and thank him for his support of school choice. If you yourself have any questions about school choice or any other legislative issue, kindly contact the Archdiocesan Office for Public Affairs at (215)587-3509.

Television Alert

Please be reminded that this Sunday, September 20th, at 2:00pm, WHYY-TV/Channel 12 will present "Reflections on Vatican II", a two hour documentary which chronicles the history and lasting effects of the Second Vatican Council on the Catholic Church and the world at large. We heartily recommend this fine program for your viewing pleasure.

Special Collection Next Weekend

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Villa St. Joseph, Darby. It is the first facility of its kind to be established in the United States for the care of aged and infirm diocesan priests. Regina Coeli Residence, Warminster was established in 1991 and an annex adjacent to Villa St. Joseph was opened last year, because of the need to expand available accommodations. Over 70 retired priests are in residence at these locations, which also serve as a temporary place for recuperation following an unexpected illness or accident. The Annual Collection for the Care of the Aging and Ill Priests will be taken up in the Archdiocese next weekend, September 26th/27th. This collection is a major and essential source of revenue for these needed facilities. Your customary generosity to this deserving appeal will be greatly appreciated. God bless you!

A Family Perspective

Today St. Paul urges us to pray for all leaders. This would include not just national and world leaders, but local leaders like pastors and pastoral councils, principals, DRE's and teachers, coaches and Scout leaders, etc. And let's not forget parents and those who act as parents - they are the first and most influential leaders of all.

Child Care Services

A Little Touch of Class and Christianity Child Care is the name of a child care service provided for children infant to preschool. Our own parishioner Andrea Godwin will be providing these services. For more information or if you have any questions please call Roni Godwin.
