Your Prayers are Requested

In the kindness of your prayers, please remember the sick: Julia Esposito, Vera Lahm, Casper Hracho, John Yankech, Mary Riley, Rose Guldan, Jean Moister, Helen Gentile, Sophie Zelina, Ann Hook and the dead: Father Gerardo Caruso, Victoria Carbo.

All Souls Day, November 2nd

Long associated with the Remembrance of All Souls, on November 2nd, has been the practice of submitting the names of our beloved deceased that they might be remembered in the Masses of All Souls Day, as well as throughout the entire month of November, the Month of the Holy Souls. Over this weekend and next, you are invited to submit these names (perhaps using the envelope provided) and they will be placed on the altar for the month. On All Souls Day itself, Monday, November 2nd, Masses will be offered at 9:00am and 5:00pm in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, and at 7:00pm in St. Joseph Church. This feast gives beautiful expression of the enduring bonds which exist between the living and the dead. Our prayers for one another can benefit our common quest for salvation.

Forty Hours Devotion Locally

Nearby St. Stanislaus Kostka Church will observe the Eucharistic Forty Hours Devotion on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: November 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The Blessed Sacrament will be solemnly exposed on the altar each morning after the 9 o'clock Mass, with the Church open for visitation during the day. Exposition concludes on Sunday at a 5:00pm Holy Hour for Vocations, on Monday prior to the 5:00pm All Souls Day Mass and on Tuesday at 7:00pm with the closing procession and Mass. All are welcome to participate during these reflective, grace-filled days.

Operation Thanksgiving

Once again, St. Joseph Parish will join with other church congregations of the Coatesville Area in sponsoring Operation Thanksgiving, a program of food sharing with the needy at the holiday. In this way food baskets may be distributed to the eligible applicants, providing a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Our parishioners are being asked to donate a single food item: Stuffing Mix. Your boxes and bags of stuffing mix should be dropped off in the church vestibule over the weekend of November 7th/8th. Now in its ninth year, Operation Thanksgiving has been of benefit to hundreds upon hundreds of needy families; please help to guarantee the success of this holiday food drive once more. God love you! Also, do look for our participation in a similar food sharing program at Christmas.

Penny Petition

We are still in need of funds for the purchase of new robes for the Children's Choir. So we are asking for donations of any surplus pennies or loose change that you might have. There will be containers located at the back of the church during the next few weeks. If you could drop your pennies or loose change into them as you arrive or leave church, we would be most grateful. The children will be responsible for counting and wrapping any donations. Even though we have been offered outright donations to cover the remaining cost of the robes, I felt it was important for the children to take part and work towards reaching our goal. Thank you in advance for your help in making this effort a success.

Halloween Party

Our annual parish Halloween party will be held next Sunday, November 1st. This party is for all the children of the parish. It will be held in the school hall from 1-3 pm. Please come and join in the fun. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children and make this a family event (Grandparents are welcome too!). There will be games, food, and costume judging. Each child should bring one bag of candy (individually wrapped candy bars, lollypops, etc.) for the candy scramble. Adults, please consider staying a few minutes after the party to help with clean up. See you there!

Parish Life Congress ‘98

The Parish Life Congress is an annual educational / formational gathering of those who are involved in various forms of pastoral and educational service to the Church. The Congress is an integral part of the spiritual and pastoral Renewal of the Archdiocese in anticipation of the third millennium of Christianity. This year’s Congress will be held on Saturday November 7th at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor. Please call Frank Lasak if you are interested in attending this event.

A Family Perspective

Today's Gospel reminds us of the need for humility. In our families, let's be sure to teach our children to balance pride in their accomplishments with gratitude to God who makes them possible. In other words to do as the Psalmist says and "bless the Lord at all times".
