First Holy Communion Sunday

The joy of the Easter Season is compounded for us by our Parish Celebration of First Holy Communion next Sunday, May 2nd, at the 10:30am Mass. All are invited to participate in this memorable sacramental event, bringing to the Table of the Risen Lord our seven young first communicants. May it be a beautiful day for them and their families!

1999 Catholic Charities Appeal

Stewardship is the call to realize our Christian vocation as disciples of Christ Jesus. God asks us to be responsible caretakers of His gifts, expressing our gratitude by eagerly sharing our time, talent and treasure out of love for Him and one another. Your support of the 1999 Catholic Charities Appeal is a true response to His call. The Appeal itself opens next weekend, May 1st-2nd, and continues for the subsequent three weeks. Please be as generous as you are able, rendering assistance to the poor and needy among us.

CCD News

There will be no CCD classes on May 2nd and May 9th. Our last class of the year will be on May 16th. Thank you.

A Family Perspective

In today's Gospel, Jesus alerts us to the need to recognize the Shepherd's voice. Parents who keep their own ears tuned to Jesus' voice will teach their children to recognize it as well. That way, the whole family can "have life and have it to the full."

Parish 75th Anniversary Celebration Dawns

Unbounded is our Easter gladness as we solemnly celebrate our Parish 75th Anniversary of Founding this Sunday, April 25th, 1999. A Concelebrated Pontifical Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered in our Parish Church, with The Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, as the Principal Concelebrant. Other Concelebrants will include Monsignor James McDonough, Regional Vicar for Chester County, Father Roman Kozacheson, O.F.M. Cap., a native son of our Parish, and Father John Ferrence, O.S.A., guest homilist for the occasion. Additional expected Concelebrants are Father John Hagen, O.S.A., Father Joseph Hasieber, Father Victor Eschbach, Father George Schneider, Father Robert Tobolski, M.S.C., and Father John Oulds.

Added to the beautiful music of our Parish Adult Choir, Cantors and Organist will be the talented instrumentation of the five piece Basilica Brass. It shall be a truly uplifting Liturgy that rivals the very worship of the angels in heaven. A Pre-Mass Medley of Sacred Song will be presented beginning at 12:30pm.

Other special features of our Anniversary Mass include: references to the Slovak heritage of our Parish, reception of Holy Communion under both forms, bearers of the altar gifts whose participation is significant in light of their personal history.

The festivities of the day continue with a Gala Dinner Dance in the Red Clay Room, Kennett Square, beginning with a social hour at 4:00pm, followed by a full course dinner at 5:00pm. Parishioners Lisa Hillman, Chairlady of the Anniversary Celebration Committee, and Frank Lasak, Jr., a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, will be Masters of Ceremonies for the Post-Dinner Program. Dancing at dusk concludes the evening.

A 75th Anniversary is a blessed moment in time and eternity. It is a remembering, rejoicing, renewing moment for the Parish Family of St. Joseph. It is a moment for us all to be the Church with and for one another. Share in the grace and gladness, faith and fellowship of this blessed moment!

Happy Anniversay to one and all!
