Firefighters' Memorial Service

Next Sunday, May 16th, St. Joseph Church will host the Fireman's Relief Memorial Service at 5:00pm. Annually the Washington Hose Company Number 1 and the West End Fire Company, together with their respective Auxiliaries, conduct a religious service to honor the memory of those members who died in the previous year.

A roll call of the deceased and placing of flowers is a moving highlight of the service. Everyone from the community would be welcome to participate. Immediately after the service, fellowship over a light buffet will take place in our school hall.

1999 Catholic Charities Appeal

This Sunday marks the second week of the three week campaign for the solicitation of gifts to the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal. Your support of this Appeal identifies you as a true steward of the gifts that God has bestowed on you. On behalf of the thousands of men, women and children of the Archdiocese who will benefit from your generosity, thank you for your dedication to the Appeal. If you have not yet made your gift, please do so by placing it in the collection basket or vestibule drop box, or by sending it to the Rectory Office. Thank you!

A Note from your Chairperson

The Archdiocese has assigned a goal for this year's Catholic Charities for St. Joseph Parish in the amount of $7,500.00. It's going to take the cooperation of our entire Parish to reach this goal. Last Sunday's Collection amounted to $305.00, which leaves a balance of $7,195.00. We urge your giving to this worthy charity. St. Joseph Parish in the past has always reached their goals!! We pray this year will be no different, but we do need the participation of all to do so. Can we count on the help of all of you? Thank you.

A Family Perspective

St. Peter reminds us today that while we should be eager to speak of our hope in Christ, we must do so "gently and respectfully." This way of dealing with people is learned first in our families. Do we remember that all we say and do reflects our faith - or lack of it?
