A Search Within

The Serra Clubs of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties are sponsoring a Discernment Retreat Weekend, July 9th-11th, 1999 at St. Raphaela Center, Haverford, for those young adults, 18 to 40, who are considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. If interested, kindly call Father Joseph Devlin at (610)667-5778 or Sister Kathleen Leary, S.S.J. at (215)587-3795 for more information.

A Family Perspective

"Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me," Jesus says in today's Gospel. Families are called to welcome so many people - babies, new friends and fiances, to name a few. The challenge is to love them as unconditionally God loves us. Are there any conditions you need to remove?

Jubilee Penance

We can all say with the prophet "We have sinned" (Jeremiah 3:25). Paul the Apostle said, however, "Where sin abounded, grace overflowed all the more" (Romans 5:20). The great year of jubilee is a grace-filled year of penance: an acknowledgment of responsiblitiy, a conversion of heart through a change of life, a confession of faith that we and all the earth belong to God alone - "The earth is mine,' says the Lord." (Leviticus 25:23) Would not jubilee penance lead most surely to jubilee joy?

Farewell and Thank you

This Sunday, June 27th, will be my last official duty as President of the Women’s Club of St. Joseph’s Church when we will install our new President, Andy Levenite and the new officers for next year at the Peddler Inn, beginning with a cocktail hour at 5:00 PM.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Women’s Club and especially the members of the "Board" for their total support in all our activities the past three years and previously when I served as President. Without your dedicated help, nothing would have been possible.

At this time I have to also mention our wonderful parishioners who always supported our activities by your donations and attendance at these affairs. God Bless You All and I am hoping you will continue to support all the Presidents in the future.

St. Joseph’s Parish is a very loving, dedicated parish which I am sure will get better every moment.

Thank you again.

Love,
Ann B. Cigas, Outgoing President
