Pastor's Installation This Sunday

With the Regional Vicar for Chester County, Monsignor James T. McDonough, presiding, Father John V. Oulds is officially installed as the sixth Pastor in the 75 year history of St. Joseph Church this Sunday, July 18th. The Installation Ceremony takes place during the 10:30am Mass, at which Father John J. Hagen, O.S.A. participates as a concelebrant. Fellowship over breakfast refreshments will follow in the School Hall.

As was earlier noted, Father John likewise continues his ministry as Pastor of nearby St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. This arrangement of two parishes sharing the ministry of one pastor is known as "twinning" in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and will be employed with greater frequency to offset the reduced number of available priests. Our prayers, congratulations and good wishes are extended to Father John as he takes on this "twin" responsibility for our West End Parishes.

New Altar Servers

Boys and girls of the Parish, who have completed the Third Grade and have received their First Communion, are eligible to assist at the sacred ceremonies of the altar as altar servers. They should likewise have a sense of responsibility and dedication, be able to act with care and reverence in the sanctuary and possess an enthusiasm for the duties of a server. Certainly, too, the support and encouragment from interested parents are most important. Mr. Vince Krupansky is currently forming a group for the next series of instructions scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 25th, and to continue for the next several Sundays after the 10:30am Mass. Each session is one hour in length. To register your son or daughter, please fill in the sheet for altar server candidates found on the table in the church vestibule. Thank you.

A Family Perspective

As our readings continue the parables of sowing and harvesting, we see that to make his points, Jesus used examples his listeners knew well. Parents, too, can be alert for teachable moments and events that show the presence and action of God in our lives.

Vacation Bible School

Mark you calendar for Vacation Bible School! It will be held on 5 consecutive evenings from July 26th through July 30th. Last year’s program was a great success and we hope that you will be able to join us this year. Registration will be held this Sunday July 18th after the 10:30 Mass.

We needs adults and teens to lead groups, coordinate games and activities, help with arts and crafts, and provide snacks. If you can help, please call Frank Lasak or Kathy Catanese. Thank you.

Priceless Pearl

Heaven's reign is a sower strewing seed generously everywhere. The result depends on how we receive the seed. The separation between the good growth and the weeds comes only at harvest time. The seed is small and weak but grows tall and gives shade if given a welcome. Changing everything it touches, it expands and enlarges us. It is a hidden treasure, a priceless pearl. Christian faith is all of this. Christ calls us to respond and to share God's life and God's glory! Observe, judge, act!

Shrine Trip in August

A mid-summer pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. John Neumann, North Philadelphia is planned for Thursday, August 5th. An air-conditioned coach, provided by the Parish, will carry us to the Shrine and back home between 8:30am and 4:00pm. The only individual expense will be the cost of lunch at a good, modest and clean restaurant in the vicinity of the Shrine. The Shrine staff will make several presentations including an explained tour of the museum. Mass will be offered for our group at the Saint's exposed tomb. To reserve your place, contact Father John at (610)384-1172.
