Autumn R.C.I.A. Sessions

Are you a non-Catholic who would like to inquire about the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Faith? Are you a Catholic who may be lacking one or both of the later Sacraments of Initiation: Confirmation and Holy Eucharist? Are you a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church who would wish to review his/her Catholicism in an updated fashion? Then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is for you and it is very "user friendly"! Participants gather weekly, October through May, in the Rectory Parlor to engage in an organized program of instruction, kindly contact Father John at (610)384-1172.

Heartfelt Appreciation

Dear Parishioners,

Thank you for your participation in the glad events of last Sunday morning: my installation as Pastor of St. Joseph Church and the delightful fellowship in the School Hall after Mass. Your affirmation of my pastoral ministry, as witnessed during the installation ceremony, as well as your warm greetings and best wishes on that occasion were deeply appreciated. What a great happiness it is for me to be a part of your Parish Family! May God continue to bless our faithful efforts at being the Church with and for one another. Again, thank you for your ongoing kindness.

Sincerely,
Father John

Vacation Bible School This Week

Vacation Bible School will be held on 5 consecutive evenings from July 26th through July 30th. We will meet each evening in the school hall from 6:30 until 8:30. Hope to see you there! Please call Frank Lasak or Kathy Catanese if you have any questions.

New Altar Servers

Candidates to be our new altar servers are reminded that their series of Sunday instructions will begin this Sunday, July 25th, and continue for the next several Sundays. Each session will be conducted in the Church immediately after the 10:30am Mass, and should be one hour in length. Mr. Vince Krupansky will acquaint our altar server candidates with their movements and responsibilities in the sanctuary. We are grateful for their interest and enthusiasm.

Organizational Meeting for Children’s Picnic

In celebration with St. Joseph’s Church 75th Anniversary, a Children's Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 19th at Hibernia Park.

An organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday August 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the School Hall. Please bring your ideas for how we can make this day extra special for the children of St. Joseph’s Parish.

If you are interested in helping with this event, please try to attend the meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but are willing to help in some way, please contact Lisa Hillman. Thank you in advance for your support.

Our Consolidated Grade School

The Coatesville Area Catholic Elementary School Tuition Collection and Stationery Sale will be held on July 27th & 28th in the Primary (St. Cecilia) Building from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, and at 5:00 to 8:00pm. For registered parishioners, tuition for the 1999-2000 school year for one child is $1,200.00, for two children $1,750.00, for three or more children $2,300.00. The School will be reopening on Monday, August 30th, 1999.

Shrine Trip

A mid-summer pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. John Neumann, North Philadelphia is planned for Thursday, August 5th. An air-conditioned coach, provided by the Parish, will carry us to the Shrine and back home between 8:30am and 4:00pm. The only individual expense will be the cost of lunch at a good, modest and clean restaurant in the vicinity of the Shrine. The Shrine staff will make several presentations including an explained tour of the museum. Mass will be offered for our group at the Saint's exposed tomb. To reserve your place, contact Father John at (610)384-1172.

P.E.A.C.E.

Warm, friendly families are needed now to host 15-19 year old Catholic foreign exchange students for the next school year. Students have their own spending money, insurance, and airfare. Families provide room, board, understanding, and love. For complete details call P.E.A.C.E., the Pro-American Educational and Cultural Exchange at 1-800-377-2232. You may call anytime (evenings or weekends).

P.E.A.C.E. is a small, closely-supervised, family oriented program with emphasis on providing the Latin American teenager at Catholic-Christian home environment, and an understanding of our history, our social values, and our political and economic systems. Both student and family will gain a lifelong friendship.

A Family Perspective

Since Jesus speaks today of treasures and valuable pearls, this would be a good time for families to take stock of who and what they hold dear, and how these relate to the kingdom of heaven.

Women's Club News

A Note from the New President

At the end of June, I was given the honor to serve as President of the Women's Club of St. Joseph's for 1999-2000. The Women's Club has not only been a major social group but also a fund-raising group for St. Joseph's Parish. The Club has sponsored our Annual Parish Picnic and Christmas at St. Joseph's which have been very successful in bonding our Parish Family together. Our Annual Christmas and Spring Bazaars, and the Lottery Calendar have helped raise funds for various needs of the Parish. These events take many hours of planning by both women and men of the Parish who give their time, talent and treasure to make these events so successful.

The Board of the Women's Club and I invoke the help of all parishioners in making this year more successful than ever. We have set our goals HIGH and hope to achieve all of them. We can't do it alone! When you are asked, please lend a helping hand.

Please feel free to contact me or any Board Member with any suggestions you may have for parish events/fund raisers which the Women's Club could sponsor.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of the Women's Club of St. Joseph's Church.

Andrea M. Levenite, President
