Special Appeal Next Weekend

Annually, the Parishes of the Archdiocese are asked to participate in the Mission Cooperation Plan overseen by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. In this way, a representative of a religious community engaged in missionary endeavors is assigned to a Parish, in order to acquaint the faithful with the work of their community, as well as to solicit prayers and financial assistance.

Next weekend, August 21st-22nd, Sister Florence Wanjiru Nderitu of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate will speak at the Masses about the joys and challenges of her missionary activities in Africa. Herself a native of Kenya, Sister Florence attended our local Immaculata College for her undergraduate studies. For a fuller understanding of the apostolate of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, please consult the attached information sheet provided by the Sisters. Your contribution to the Second Collection next weekend will directly benefit their Missions in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Note that an undated offering envelope for this purpose is to be found at the very back of the box of church envelopes. God love you for your kindness!

 A Family Perspective

In her prayer in today's Gospel, called the Magniifcat, Mary "proclaims the greatness of the Lord...for he has looked about his servant in her lowliness." What are some of the ways God has looked kindly upon your family? How do you proclaim his greatness?

Children's 75th Anniversary Celebration

At a meeting of interested parties last week, plans were laid for the various components of our Children's 75th Anniversary Celebration in Hibernia Park on Sunday, September 19th, from 1:00 until 6:00pm. The day itself has all the makings of a full, joyful, rewarding experience for the youngsters. A flyer with detailed information will shortly be making its way to the mailboxes of our families with pre-school and school age children. Please give it a careful reading and then act as directed. We are confident that the enthusiasm of both children and parents will grow as we draw nearer to our September 19th festivities.

Marriage Encounter

Why go to the shore or the mountains? Go on a weekend that will last the whole year. Experience a Marriage Encounter Weekend. Next dates are August 13th-15th, September 24th-26th, October 15th-17th and November 12th-14th. For more information call 1-800-4LOVE30.

Baptismal Womb of the Church

Happy she who bore the Son of God. Still happier those who hear God's word and keep it! Today's solemnity is for all of us, because Mary has accomplished what the church hopes and expects to have happen to us too: As Jesus was born of sinless Mary, so we are born anew sinless from the womb of the Church in Baptism. The Lord God's promise to us will be fulfilled. For this we too can justly proclaim the greatness of the Lord who has looked upon his lowly servants and raised them up!
