Sacrament of Reconciliation This weekend, Confessions will be heard on Sunday, October 17th, from 9:45 to 10:15am, prior to the Morning Mass. Next weekend, Confessions will be heard on Saturday, October 23rd, from 5:45 to 6:15pm, prior to the Evening Mass. Also, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available anytime upon request. World Mission Sunday Next weekend, October 23rd-24th, is observed as World Mission Sunday, a time when the Church calls us to special prayer and sacrifice for the missions all over the globe. We are only a few weeks away from the 2,000th anniversary of the coming of Christ. Yet two-thirds of the world's people still do not know Him. How can they, if no one speaks to them about Him, if someone hasn't been sent to serve them in His name, if no one invites them to live in Him, as we live in Him. We believe in Jesus Christ. We are the ones, therefore, to speak out with His Good News. Ensure support for the missionary work of the Church worldwide, as well as in our own country. Please be as generous as your means permit to the special World Mission Sunday Collection next weekend. Pastoral Council Meeting The Pastoral Council will meet on Tuesday, October 19th, at 7:30pm in the Rectory Meeting Room. All council members should plan to attend. What Belongs to God? Did Jesus not know that some taxes are fair and others are unfair? He said, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." Did he mean I need to donate the same amount to charity as I pay in taxes? No. Jesus knew the difference between fair and unfair. He was not making a legal judgement about what belongs to Caesar. He stated strongly, however, that all creation belongs to God. The least we can do is recognize God's goodness and repay it. How? The psalmist answers: "Give the Lord glory and Honor". Sacrament of Confirmation Our modest number of candidates dictates that a Bishop Administers the Sacrament of Confirmation once every three years, rather than annually. In accord with this arrangement, the Most Reverend Martin N. Lohmuller, retired Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, will administer this Sacrament of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, June 11, 2000 at the 10:30am Mass. There is certainly no more appropriate day for Confirmation than the Solemnity of Pentecost, the very day on which the Apostles of the Lord received the fullness of His Spirit. Parents with children eligible for the Sacrament should take note, please, of the assigned date and time. A meeting with our parents will be scheduled for a weeknight in November. |
Lively Entertainment St. Stanislaus Kostka Church invites all to enjoy "A Merry Sunday with Joe Gracia's Polka Express" on November 14th, 2:00 to 6:00pm, in the Polish American Citizens' Club, 15 Strode Avenue. Featured will be the lively music of Eastern Europe and other favorites, as well as a delicious hot and cold buffet. Tickets are $10.00, available from Helen, Maryann and Father John at 610-384-1172. A Family Perspective In the Old Testament reading from Isaiah, we encounter the foundation of our faith heritage - "there is no God besides me". As our children encounter the many "gods" of this world they need the secure faith of parents and family who acknowledge and accept the power and authority of the one true God.
